Introducing: Blue Pencil Consult

The dabbling numerologist in me understands that the balance in today’s numbers 1, 2, and 3 is good. Today is my birthday. Today is also the day I’ve chosen to officially announce and launch my business: Blue Pencil Consult. A freelance editorial and publishing consulting business.

The business is owned and operated by my self here in Edmonton, AB, but not by myself. I have many friends and colleagues from across the country who will have a hand in making it what it becomes. Indeed, many of those people have counselled and advised me up to this point. You know who you are, and thank you.

Some of those colleagues and friends were made on my trip across the country last “spring”. It was on this trip and throughout my months spent in Toronto, deeply immersed in the publishing scene there, that I found where I feel I can contribute best.

My intent with this business is ultimately to support people in their writing and publishing goals. People being anyone—writers, students, business folk, publishers. Writing and publishing goals being any, too—keeping better journals, developing a company magazine, writing and selling a best-selling novel.

I’ve been messing around with this site for weeks, writing and rewriting text, deciding on widgets and fonts, and re-deciding and deciding again. There are still a few kinks to work out, and I know I’ll inevitably change things as I move forward with it.

Finally releasing this to the world is intimidating. My jaw has been throbbing for days, and there is a faint sense of… maybe it’s performance anxiety. I know that this is something many writers feel towards their projects, and I’ll be damned—I suppose I am one of them, one of you.

But by now this business has gestated longer than an elephant.

The numbers are right and there is no time like now.  So alas, I present: Blue Pencil Consult.
